During covid the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced the Social Relief of Distress Grant, which is aimed at unemployed South African between the age of 18 and 60 years, who need financial aid.

New and returning applicants have the option to choose between various applications channels, depending on which one they are more comfortable on using.

1. WhatsApp:
Applications can be completed via the office SASSA SRD WhatsApp: 082 046 8553
2.Online applications:
Applicants are informed that online applications can only be completed at srd.sassa.gov.za ,to apply have a South Africa id , contact details and a banking account, which must be owned by you.
Requirements
NB: according to the agency " only South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself or who are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source" will be consider when completing application.
R624 means test income threshold
New and returning applicants need to be below the R624 means test income threshold for the COVID grant, if ever they are receiving money that's more than the means test their applications.
In 2022 the South African Social Security Agency announced the increase of the R350 to R624.
